Estudy Secondary — website and mobile app
This Privacy Policy explains how Estudy Secondary ("Estudy", "we", "our" or "us") collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use the Estudy Secondary website (estudysecondary.com) and the Estudy Secondary mobile apps (together, the "Service"). Many of our users are secondary school learners, so we collect only what we need to teach, support and keep learners safe, and we never sell personal information. We handle personal data in line with the Data Protection Act No. 3 of 2021 of Zambia and other laws that apply to us.
1. Information you give us
Account details
Your name, email address, phone number, password (stored only in encrypted, hashed form), country, and whether you are a learner or a parent. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address and an account identifier from them.
Learning profile
Your curriculum, level (Form or Grade), subjects, profile photo if you add one, and study preferences.
Family links
When a parent links to a learner with a family code, we record the link so the parent can see the learner's progress, assignments, tuition timetable and attendance, and buy for them.
What you create or send
Assignment answers and uploads, quiz answers, forum questions and answers, photos or text of questions you send to AI Solve, messages to the Estudy Support assistant, and support tickets.
Purchases
What you bought, for whom, the amount, currency and payment reference, and the Mobile Money number used. Card details are handled by the payment provider; we never see or store full card numbers or Mobile Money PINs.
2. Information collected as you use the Service
- Learning activity: courses joined, videos watched and your position in them, topics completed, quiz attempts and scores, downloads, assignments, and token use.
- Live tuition: your class timetable, whether you said you would attend, whether you joined a class (and when), and attendance marked by teachers.
- Device and technical data: device model, operating system, app version, browser, language, IP address, and crash and error reports.
- Notification tokens so we can send reminders and alerts to your device (you can turn notifications off).
- Whether you are using the website or the mobile app, so help and instructions match what is on your screen.
3. How we use information
| Purpose | Examples | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Provide the Service | Accounts, courses, books, tuition access, downloads, AI features | Contract with you |
| Take and confirm payments | Mobile Money and card checkouts, receipts, token balances | Contract; legal obligations |

| Support and communication | Class reminders, account emails, answering questions | Contract; legitimate interest |
| Safety and security | Preventing fraud, content sharing, abuse of AI and free tokens | Legitimate interest; legal obligations |
| Improve Estudy | Fixing crashes, understanding which features help learners | Legitimate interest |
| Advertising (free mobile app) | Showing ads that support free access | Consent where required; legitimate interest |
4. Learners and children
Estudy is designed for secondary school learners, many of whom are under 18. Learners under 18 should use Estudy with the knowledge and consent of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 without the consent of a parent or guardian; if we learn that we have, we will delete it.
Parents and guardians who link to a learner can see that learner's learning progress, assignments, purchases made for them, tuition timetable and attendance. They cannot see the learner's password, and cannot join live classes or answer attendance on the learner's behalf.
We do not use learners' learning data for advertising, and we do not sell it.
5. AI features
AI Solve and the Estudy Support assistant are powered by Google Gemini. What you send to them (for example a photo or text of a question, or a support message), together with limited context such as your curriculum or country, is sent to Google to produce an answer. We keep your AI documents and chat history in your account so you can see them again. Please do not include passwords, PINs or other sensitive personal details in AI requests.
7. International transfers
Some of our providers store or process information outside Zambia. When they do, we rely on their contractual and security commitments to protect it to a standard consistent with Zambian law.
9. How long we keep information
- Account and learning data: while your account is active, and for a short period after deletion to complete backups and resolve disputes.
- Payment and invoice records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Attendance records, AI documents and chat history: while your account is active, unless you delete them sooner.
- Crash and technical logs: for a limited period, then deleted or anonymised.
10. How we protect information
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access controls, and the principle of least access for staff. Paid files are delivered through private, expiring links tied to your account rather than public addresses, and class links are only released to enrolled learners while a class is running. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your password private and tell us straight away if you notice anything suspicious.
11. Your rights and choices
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- correct information that is wrong or incomplete (much of it you can edit in your profile);
- delete your account and personal information (from your profile in the app, or by contacting us);
- object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent where we rely on it, for example for notifications or advertising;
- complain to the Data Protection Commission of Zambia or your local data protection authority.
How to make a request
Contact us using the details below. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will respond within the time the law requires. Parents and guardians may make requests on behalf of a learner they are responsible for.
12. Other policies
Our other apps have their own privacy policies: Math Solutions (/privacy/math-solutions) and Papers & Quizzes (/privacy/papers-and-quizzes). Links to other websites, such as payment pages or class platforms, are covered by those websites' own policies.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. The latest version is always on this page with its effective date and version number, and we will tell you in the app, on the website or by email about important changes.
